As Blondie can confirm, we both have a slight problem with peanut butter. I suppose it's really more of an addiction. Combine that with my growing addiction to Frogurt and we have a peanut butter fro-yo situation. I've heard tell of a Peanut Butter Frogurt, but I've never sampled it. Until now...
Ever since I discovered that Forty Carrots occasionally serves Peanut Butter Frogurt, I've been on a mission to sample some PB fro-yo. After some reconnaissance, I discovered that Thursday is the scheduled Peanut Butter Fro-yo day. Two weeks ago Blondie and I met up at Forty Carrots right after work to get our fix and we were DENIED. Apparently they have a limited quantity of the Peanut Butter Fro-yo. When it's gone, it's gone. And they switch over to another flavor. Sad. So last Thursday Blondie and I made what some might consider a foolish decision: we would brave the Forty Carrots lunch crowd in our quest for PB fro-yo.
I arrived first at 1pm and was a little alarmed to see the line snaking out of Forty Carrots well into the bedding department. As I got closer I realized the that was the line for eat-in dining. The take out line was much shorter and much faster. Note to self: if I ever want to dine at Forty Carrots I'll make sure I have time for a very, very long lunch.
As we got closer and closer to ordering I attempted to case out the machines. To my dismay I didn't see Peanut Butter listed on either of them. Oh no! What to do? Abort mission? We decided to play it cool. We had come all the way here, at least we could ask about the Peanut Butter Fro-yo. The woman at the counter was nice and super friendly. I've worked at a scoop shop myself before, but it had a slightly different clientele than Bloomies--I can only imagine what she puts up with on a daily basis. Any way, it turned out they were just missing the sign and they did have PB fro-yo. Success! Now what to order. Just PB? PB and Plain? PB and Chocolate? We decided on a large with all three flavors of the day: chocolate, plain and pb. And this is what we got:
At $7.04 including tax, the large doesn't come cheap, but at least they aren't stingy with the fro-yo; it was more than ample for Blondie and me to share. As for the mythic Peanut Butter Fro-yo...I really enjoyed it. The flavor was reminiscent of natural peanut butter and not overly sweetened. And paired nicely with the chocolate for a faux peanut butter cup combo. While plain is still my favorite flavor overall, I don't really recommend pairing it with the peanut butter. The contrast of the tangy plain and the subtle peanut butter didn't do much for me. I'd much prefer the peanut butter by itself or paired with chocolate. Peanut Butter might also be a good flavor to try with one of the many toppings. Next time!
