One of my favorite things about summer is traveling, because traveling means road food. Yum. And a few weekends ago when I was up in Maine I had what quite possibly might be the best French Fries I Have Ever Known...
Duck Fat. As soon as I heard the name of the restaurant I was intrigued. French fries fried in duck fat? Could you get any better than that? Yes...if you smother them in duck gravy and cheese curds. I had heard raves about Poutine from my friend, DietCokeGirl, but to be honest I'd always been a little creeped out at the thought of combining cheese and gravy. Consider me creeped out no more. It's certifiably delicious. The fries at Duck Fat were crisp and perfectly. And the rich gravy paired even better with the ooey gooey, melty cheese curds than I could have imagined. I could go for some right about now.
The regular duck fat fries were delicious as well, but if I'm going for Duck Fat, next time I'll probably just go whole hog and get the poutine.
While at Duck Fat I had a chance to taste some of their homemade Mint & Lime Soda as well as their homemade Ginger Brew. Both were tasty, but the Mint & Lime Soda was the winner. Light, minty and refreshing it's the perfect soda for a hot summer day.

The weak link in my lunch was probably my tuna melt panini. And that speaks more to the quality of everything else. The tuna sandwich was good, it just wasn't the best I've ever had. And next to the delicious and creamy Tomato Fennel Soup and the Poutine, it's hard for a mere tuna melt to hold up.

I can't wait for a return visit to try their famous beignets!

You can get duck fat fries in NYC at The Harrison (355 Greenwich at Harrison), though you'll have to purchase a pricey meal alongside them...
Sounds awesome! I would so love to try sometime! I have never had Poutine before, but I have been vowing to make it sometime...maybe in the fall.
@lc: oh, yum. Thanks for the tip!
@jenndz: Oooh, can't wait to hear how your homemade poutine turns out!
