On my way to a fancy business lunch yesterday I ran into a couple dejected pals from the office. They had just tried to grab a pancakes lunch at The Red Flame and discovered it had been shuttered by the Department of Health. Pancakes? At a diner in midtown? Hmm. What was this Red Flame they were so enamored of...
From what I can gather from my colleagues and the reviews on menupages, it sounds like The Red Flame is a solid diner with decent prices. Looking up their recent restaurant inspection and their inspection history, I have to say I'm not too horrified--one of their violations was for improper construction of a "non-food contact surface." Their menu looks reasonably priced for the nabe and it's chock full of diner comfort food. Anyone have any Red Flame experiences? I'm kind of looking forward to their reopening...is that wrong?
