Checking out Confection at One Girl Cookies

Last Friday Lawman and I decided to forgo the Halloween parade and pass on a couple party invites in favor of a chill night out on the town. We hit up Joya in Carroll Gardens for dinner, but the highlight of the night was Confection at One Girl Cookies. So, so, so good...

I've read all sorts of good things about One Girl Cookies but I've never had a chance to make it over to their store on Dean Street. I remembered hearing that for a couple of hours on Friday and Saturday nights they turn into a dessert bar with a changing menu of seasonal desserts. Well, Halloween night was no exception and when I saw that their menu was featuring a Hard Cider Ice Cream Float with Hot & Spicy Churros I was sold.

One Girl's store is adorable. Their window was filled with all sorts of tasty Halloween treats from little ghosty cupcakes to double pumpkin whoopie pies. So cute!

Since I shotgunned the Hard Cider Float, Lawman went for the Bittersweet Chocolate Pudding Parfait layered with Dark Chocolate Cookie Crumble & Served with Sangria Sorbet. The Float and Pudding Parfait were each $7. The other dessert special on Friday was Pineapple Macadamia Upside Down Cake with Toasted Coconut Ice Cream
& Passion Fruit Caramel, also $7, or you could get a tasting of all three options for $12.

The churros were excellent. Especially good when dipped in the hard cider float. Very yummy and unique dessert.

Lawman's pudding parfait was also delicious. Good and chocolatey and the sangria sorbet made for a nice fruity contrast.

All-in-all excellent desserts and an excellent way to end an evening. And as a sweet parting gift, they gave us each a little pumpkin chocolate chip cookie to take home. Awesome.

I'll definitely be making a return visit to One Girl soon!

If you need to brush up your pie making skills pre-Thanksgiving, One Girl is holding an apple pie class on Thursday, November 13 from 7:30pm-9:30pm. The class costs $60, call (212) 675 4996 to reserve your slot.

Joya is so so good. Bet it was a bit crazy Friday night, though.

I also love One Girl, but I didn't know they did the weekend thing! I will have to check it out ASAP.

The confections at One Girl are fantastic. I do reccommend avoiding the store between the hours of three and five on a school day, however. It's wall-to-wall sugar-hyped children and their overindulgent parents.

Despite my bad experience learning this lesson, I've wanted to go back for more treats since first trying them.

@fn: haha! yes, I guess I do have a sweet tooth. We're frequent patrons of Joya's sister restaurant Song, so I sort of took dinner's sheer deliciousness for granted. Their chicken pad see yue rocks!

@sharon: lol. thanks for the tip!
