Baba Booey from Crumbs, a delicious blend of peanut butter and chocolate. I'm hoping for good things from Crumbs in '09, there have been some quality control issues out there lately since they began expanding (dry cake, gross icing, flies in display cases), but all could be resolved if they want them too.
Coconut Strawberry from Batch. This cupcake proved to me that I should let cupcakes warm up before eating them; the first time I had one of these, it hadn't been warmed so the tastes were a little too subtle for me, but at the Bon Appétit Supper Club, I had a room temperature and it was outrageous.
Elvis cupcakes, sweet and porcine. Though I'm a huge lover of peanut butter and chocolate, I've always disliked peanut butter and banana; this cupcake made me doubt my disliking. The flavors, as far out as they are, meshed beautifully, it helps that Brownie KNOWS how to make good cake and added candied bacon. Bacon just makes anything better.
'Smores cupcakes, the best thing about camping made into a cuppycake. I have to admit that these cupcakes were pretty good with a crunchy graham cracker base, moist chocolate cake, and toasted marshmallow frosting. The different textures really added something extra to these.
Coconut Cloud from Sugar Sweet Sunshine. The fluffy cake and lightness of the meringue frosting weren't overpowered by a strong coconut flavor or a cloying sweetness. This cupcake was perfect.
