Tiny's Was Definitely Worth The Wait

Ninja Turtles
I had a once in a blue, crazy Saturday. It all began with a 4:30am brekkie at Tick Tock Diner, a conversation with a random stranger on my ride back to the Island, then four hours of sleep, and back into the city. Driving over the 59th Street Bridge, Bez and I saw the Idiotarod 2009 (careful on that link, it's loud on the other side) and the amazing-ness quality of my day was set. We're not even going to discuss me being rolled by Harry Winston in an office chair.

Hi Tiny's!
After ALL of that, Bez and I found ourselves hungry on the Lower East Side. I suggested Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop, a place I'd been wanting to try for something like 7 years, she concurred as one of their regular delivery customers. One good reason Bez like Tiny's is they're accommodating to vegetarians like herself. She usually gets the Silly Philly Portobello, but new year, new sandwich.

Vegetarian Spicy Rizzak

She spiced things up and went for the vegetarian version of the Spicy Rizzak. It comes with faux turkey and bacon in place of the real thing; she doesn't usually approve of faux meats, but in this case it was delicious. A little kick from the chipotle mayo and the melted cheddar pushed it from being just good to great.

Grilled Cheese

I knew I had to go with a grilled cheese. My day was already one for the record books, diet be damned. I added on some portobello mushrooms and kept the tomatoes. I liked the mixture of cheddar, provolone, and mozzarella, LOVED the mushrooms, but I would have preferred a little bit more of the cheddar in the mix, and the bread was a little too soft for me, I like my grilled cheeses crunchy. For the price though, this is definitely a good sandwich shop all around.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Cake
Added bonus: down the block from my favorite. Bez went with the chocolate bomb (which doesn't photograph well,) and I got a special, Strawberry Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. Yes, there are real strawberries in this cake. Moist, crumbly, fluffy, and delicious. This may turn me off cupcakes. Blasphemy!!
