Yay! Bayside Has Cupcakes Again!

Martha's Bayside
Martha's Country Bakery has finally opened in Bayside, Queens (yes, it's next to a Supercuts, Bear.) Now, you all know I love my Asian sweets (there are a lot of Asian bakeries around my nabe), but sometimes you just want a cupcake or a red velvet cheesecake or a really big chocolate chip cookie.

The only trip I have photos from was my first time there with Poodle. We had dinner at Press 195, followed by pure gluttony at Martha's. The first Martha's I ever visited was the Astoria location (mere blocks from my former home!) and to say I was sorely disappointed would be an understatement. I only tried it a couple more times before giving up. But that was Astoria, this is Bayside; this Martha's is like water in the desert. I did follow Yvo's advice and venture from the cupcake path,

Peach Tart

Red Velvet Cheesecake
and red velvet cheesecake

Peanut Butter Cupcake
in addition to a peanut butter cupcake.

Box of sugar
Poodle got lots of cupcakes.

Red Velvet Cupcake
The tart was delicious with flavorful peaches and the right amount of glaze. I thoroughly enjoyed this and plan on getting more. The red velvet cheesecake was also a winner; moist cake and fluffy cheesecake together as one. I liked the cupcake, but I wouldn't rate it amongst the best in the city. Poodle liked hers too.

On another visit, I got one of their huge chocolate chip cookies and it was one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've had in a LONG time. Chewy, fresh, ample chips, everything was great.

I enjoyed the cupcake I had. The actual cake could have been a tad more moist but overall pretty yummy. I love how they have the tables set up and are open late for people to go grab dessert and coffee. And yea the massive cookies are really really good.

The only downside is that I now have to look at it while I'm leaving Lucille Roberts across the street and try not to go in!

I went there last night for cappuccino and tiramisu. It was good, but Oasis on Northern Blvd. may be a little better for that. I agree that their cupcakes are good, but not the best in NY.

It's so nice to have a bakery close to home that's open late. I was checking out the red velvet cheesecake...now I have to try it!

That peach tart looks incredible! That definitely would be my first choice.

Hooray, glad their cookies elsewhere are as good! (I'm always nervous when people take my recommendations, isn't that weird?) I wish they had better cupcakes - maybe I just had an off one? Mine was dry and boring and the cream cheese frosting - blegh. I do need to try some more stuff... but the gym glares at me (what is with Martha's being near Lucille's?! - though my gym is actually NYSC, across from Martha's).

@Bianca: Ha! I used to belong to that Lucille Roberts and I would always end up stopping somewhere to eat or drink instead of going.

@Sarah: Amazingly enough, I've never been to Oasis. I will have to try and compare.

@anna: All of their tarts looked awesome.

@Yvo: They are inconsistent. The only one I had in Astoria was dry and pathetic. I think their other offerings are definitely better.

Never been to Oasis?! And a Bayside girl?!

The service there sucks, but they do have good tiramisu. Also good galactoboureko.

Yes - if you've never had galactoboureko, you HAVE to try it. The guy at Flamingo said in Greece, there is this bakery that only makes that and it's supposed to be warm - but definitely eat it cold - soo much better! Oasis can be overrated at times. It's too young of a crowd now, I feel.

Yvo - I also was not impressed with their cupcakes - I tried a red velvet. It was small, I didn't like the cream cheese frosting and the cupcake itself was kinda dry. I guess I'll just have to try again (and eat my own red velvet cupcakes with white frosting)
