Strawberry Doughnuts and Cashew Doughnuts Debut at the Doughnut Plant

I love cashews. Cashews do not love me. In fact cashews hate me with the fire of ten thousand angry suns. But try as I might, I can't hate cashews back. So for all you cashew lovers (and strawberry lovers), Doughnut Plant has your back with their flavors of the month...

The Cashew and Strawberry doughnuts come in both the yeast and cake varieties. Blondie is lucky that her commute brings her through Grand Central each morning where she can pick up a cup of excellent coffee from Joe and peruse their Doughnut Plant selection. That’s where she discovered the oh so springlike Meyer Lemon Doughnut, last month's flavor of the month. That's where she spotted this Strawberry Cake Doughnut.

The cake doughnut had a more subtle strawberry flavor than your typical strawberry jelly filled doughnut. I suspect the light and subtle flavor might pair better with a more airy yeast doughnut. And how could you resist a doughnut that looks like this...

Next time my pretty, next time. And for those of you who can eat cashews, please raise a cashew doughnut for me.

The creme brulee is quite delicious. I, too, was intrigued by Chai--what an awesome idea for a doughnut. Alas, Chai was referring to the tea that they have for sale. Perhaps if Mark Israel, Doughnut maker extraordinaire, is listening, he'll be inspired to make a Chai Doughnut someday.

I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to go by there when I was in town. Next time. I agree that chai WOULD be a great flavor for a doughnut!

The creme brulee sounds quite amazing! Do they always have them at the Joe in Grand Central? It is in the morning or all day? I will be making a point to stop next time in the city in a few weeks!!!

@anon: Joe has a good selection but they don't always have all of the doughnuts. Your best bet is hitting them up in the morning or heading downtown to the Doughnut Plant proper (warning: DP is close on Mondays). Enjoy!

@Anon: As a morning Joe regular, you definitely need to hit them up before 10. They tend to sell out pretty early in the day.
