Brooklyn and Its Beer: My Theme of the Week

Of those 250 or so unread emails in our mutual email-it's a Sisyphean battle-two were definitely read, one from Nick Suarez, and the other from Lisa Roman. Yes, one of the cooking competition heavyweights, and a woman who knows everything going on in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Since hers is first, let's talk about that.

Blondie's perfect evening
Like many people, I'll probably be sticking around town this weekend. Not that there will be a lack of things to do, it's actually shaping up to be quite packed and this BBQrawl is just the latest. This Saturday staring at 3p.m. five of Greenpoint's favorite watering holes will be offering FREE food and Brooklyn Brewery drink specials. "Brouwerij Lane will be participating with offerings of brownies and Brooklyn Brown Ale. Black Rabbit will feature hot dogs and Brooklyn Pennant while Van Gogh’s Radio chooses to participate in the crawl by offering vegetarian and meat bratwurst and a Brooklyn Pilsner special. Trays of chicken wings and pints of Brooklyn Pale Ale will be ready for crawlers at the Mark Bar while t.b.d. Brooklyn will be grilling up veggie and beef burgers in the first run of their 5,000 sq ft beer garden and pouring Brooklyn Summer Ale." Must be over 21 to participate, and it's only going on until the food runs out.

Brooklyn Beer Experiment
Speaking of beer in Brooklyn, cook-off competition royalty, Nick Suarez and Theo Peck have banded together for the 1st Annual Brooklyn Beer Experiment. At 1pm on Sunday, June 7th, The Bell House in Gowanus will be filled with various beer products-who knows what people will come up with! Tickets to the event are $18 and include one Smuttynose. Best part is a portion of the ticket sales will be donated for Ovarian Cancer Research. Charity and booze, throw in some cupcakes and it's like I'm Serena or Blair or Chuck or somebody. Tickets are available at their website: www.thebrooklynbeerexperiment.blogspot.com.
