The Vendy nominees were announced yesterday and one of our fav vendors, Chef Meru of midtown's Biryani Cart, the 2008 Vendys people's choice winner, is back in the running...
Along with the following nominees:
The Jamaican Dutchy Cart
The Rickshaw Dumpling Truck
King of Falafel
Martinez Food Vendors
Serious Eats NY is going to be running a series on each of the nominees this week, so keep your eyes peeled on their site. And for breaking Vendy news, follow the Vendy Awards' Twitter. The dessert noms should be announced soon. Treats Truck took the top prize in that category last year. I wonder if the other '08 dessert contenders will be back (and how the Dessert Truck's recent permit troubles will impact their eligibility).
This week in honor of the finalist announcement the Street Vendor Project is running a special ticket promotion this week. Here are the details:
If you buy your Vendy ticket before midnight this Thursday, August 20, thanks to NY Craft Beer Week (September 11-20), you will be entered into a lottery for one of FIVE pairs of NYC Beer Passports, which provide discounts to events and over 80 bars during NY Craft Beer Week.
Tickets are $80 until the day of the event, but they will sell out, especially after the nominee announcement publicity blitz this week, so you might want to order yours now. The cost of each ticket is tax-deductible and benefits the Street Vendor Project. TAX-DEDUCTIBLE, delicious and you could win a beer passport. What are you waiting for?!
If you're still on the fence take a look at this slide show from last year. This is really a great cause and a not to be missed event.
