Because When I Think of Rice Pudding, I Think of Pie

Rice Pudding Pie
I actually don't think of much when I think of rice pudding, it's not one of my favorite desserts. Somewhere in my childhood, the thought of rice as pudding disgusted me; it was only recently that I tried rice pudding again. It no longer disgusts me. So when I stopped by Momofuku Milk Bar with friends, I chose the rice pudding pie option.

Rice Pudding Pie
I have never been Milk Bar's biggest fan. I find it overpriced, and frequently poorly presented-I really don't like getting ice cream all over my clothes. But I do like the experimental and varying menu. You really never know what is coming onto the menu and what's one foot out the door. For example, rice pudding pie. Rice pudding has its fans, but it's not an extremely popular or ubiquitous dish in New York. To take rice pudding and place it in a pie at one of the most popular bakeries, is more than a little random. With a gingersnap crust and topped with caramel apples, the pie felt in place for fall and was certainly delicious. And at $5 a slice, none of it was wasted among my group.
