Alias Restaurant Makes a Darn Good Veggie Burger

Veggie Burger from Alias Restaurant
Last week after picked up Pig Candy for Blondie's Pig Candy cookies and before hitting up the FIPS Brooklyn Blogger meet up, we found ourselves starving with some time to kill on the Lower East Side. Both of us had passed Alias Restaurant many a time, but never gone in, but one look at their menu's veggie burger and we were sold...

Alias' veggie burger is listed on the menu as "Amazing Veggie Burger on Sesame Bun" pretty high praise, but you do have to consider the source. That said, this panko crusted portobello stuffed with black beans, queso blanco, pico de gallo, jalepeno mayo was rockin. The outside of the burger was perfectly crisp. It reminded me of my beloved 'Shroom burger from the Shake Shack with a bean filling instead of a gooey cheese center. I'm a little mayo-shy, so I ordered it on the side, which was a good call because the mayo 1) was awesome, 2) is a totally necessary creamy addition to bringing the crunchy, gooey experience together, and 3) it was good to be able to control how much mayo ended up on the finished product. The burger is $8 at lunch time and $10 for dinner (and definitely one of the cheaper dinner options).

Pulled Pork Sandwich from Alias
We also tried the Spicy BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich which was messy and ample, but more on the sweet and smokey side of barbecue than the spicy/tangy side. The sandwich itself was fine, but with splitting this and the veggie burger, I definitely found myself favoring the veggie burger side of the plate and if I made I return trip, I'd be more likely to go the veggie burger route, though perusing their brunch menu, I might have to head back for their biscuits and gravy soon...
