A couple weekends ago we ran into some serious rush hour traffic enroute to Maine. With a hungry baby in tow we did what any good parents would do, made a pit stop...at the new Shake Shack in Westport...
Danny Meyer's newest addition to the Shake empire is a fairly easy on and off 95. When we pulled up we were actually waved away from the restaurant's parking lot to a strip mall lot across the street because they were full. With that in mind, when we got in line I was expecting Madison Park wait times. The line stretched out the deck and as we perused the menu the elderly couple in front of us was getting feisty about the wait time. A staffer came by and told them the wait from the door to the counter was eight minutes. It took twelve. They bailed at eight. They would never survive in the city. Never.
The menu is the same at all the shacks and Lawman (and Little B) verified that the Shake Burger tasted just as good. What sets the individual Shacks apart are the signature concretes. Naturally we had to try one and we went for the Banana Post Road (chocolate custard, caramelized cacao nibs, bananas, and sea salt). Delicious. The crunchy cacao nibs were a stand out addition. Next trip I'm taking Blondie and we're getting the Sasco 'Crete, a vanilla custard with a local, seasonal pie.
Overall the Shack stacks up to it's sisters in the city and makes for a worthy pit stop as you brave 95.
