Kensington Rocks the Cold Brew at Steeplechase Coffee

Steeplechase Brooklyn
Fort Hamilton Parkway between 2nd and 3rd is turning into quite a little foodie strip. First came Brancaccio's, a boutique take-out food shop and now there's Steeplechase Coffee, a delightful sunny cafe serving up hot and cold brews from Brooklyn Roasting Company right next door...

Steeplechase Brooklyn

Brothers and Brooklyn natives Jim and Keith McKee, along with Keith's wife Lynn, named their coffee shop in honor of Steeplechase Park, a classic Coney Island theme park that closed in 1964. The exposed brick walls feature pictures of the park giving the joint an old school Brooklyn vibe. The owners are dedicated to trying to source as much of the shop's offerings from Brooklyn and have Terrace Bagels and Trois Pomme baked goods on offer (hello, Red Velvet Twinkie and espresso cream filled "Mostess" cupcake!). This past weekend I had a chance to try both the iced Americano ($3) and the cold brew ($3.50). While I was partial to the darker Americano both were worthy cuppas. With Brooklyn Commune just over the Windsor Terrace border serving hot and iced Stumptown and selling Brewklyn Grind, the greater Windsor Terrace Kensington coffee scene just got better.

Now if we could just convince Steeplechase to start carrying cupcakes from Robicelli's and doughnuts from Dough they would have to chase me out of the store...
