Last weekend I had the opportunity to check out the unofficial opening day at The Treats Truck Stop, the Treats Truck's brand new outpost in Carroll Gardens. Of course I couldn't say no to trying a treat. While The Treats Truck Stop will eventually be serving items not available on the truck--owner, Kim Ima promised there would be all sorts of wonderful new Truck Stop exclusive treats in the future--on that first day they had the standard treat spread including the Chocolate Chip Macaroon which surprisingly after nearly five years of following the Treats Truck, I've never tried. Until now...
Actually, it's probably not all that surprising that I've never tried the macaroons. Until fairly recently I thought that I hated coconut. And for that very reason I've studiously avoided macaroons until a few months ago when I tried Danny Macaroons at Choice Eats and a love affair was born. Sinking my teeth into a salted caramel macaroon, I felt like the universe had been holding out on me. I hunted macaroons at Bergdorf's. I made macaroons at home (and no joke, I even brought some to Kim on the truck). So really, it was only a matter of time before I tried the macaroons from the Treats Truck. The verdict?
Certifiably delicious. These macaroons made those sad, dry, lumpy things that come in a can around Passover-time look like the pathetic macaroon imposters. They aren't overly sweet, yet they still package a monstrous coconutty punch. And the outside is perfectly toasted. If you're a coconut fan, these are for you. And even if you think you're not a coconut fan, I'd give these the thumbs up.
Looking forward to taking on some more treats soon!
